ABDULBASEET ORELOPE (ORHAY OF LAW)

Candidate for SUG President, University of Abuja

Abdulbaseet Orelope is a 400 Level Law student, a seasoned advocate, an accomplished writer, and a scholar par excellence.

His leadership and advocacy journey began with the Law Students' Association of Nigeria, University of Abuja Chapter (LAWSAN UNIABUJA), when he was appointed Director of Public Prosecution during the 2024/2025 Academic Session. The office afforded him the opportunity to stand for justice and amplify the voices of students.

As Director of Public Prosecution in the Ministry of Justice, LAWSAN UNIABUJA, he upheld discipline and decorum within the Faculty, sanctioning dress code violations where necessary and ensuring that every matter brought before the Ministry was treated on its merit. His dedication and exceptional service earned him a meritorious recognition award from the administration at the end of his tenure. He subsequently served as Head of Trials in the Ministry of Justice, now known as the Juris Chamber, LAWSAN UNIABUJA.

Driven by an even greater desire to represent and advocate for students, Abdulbaseet contested for a seat in the Students' Union Government Senate and emerged a landslide victor. As a Senator, he represented not only the interests of Law students but also those of the wider University community. His commitment to accountability, fearless representation, and principled leadership earned him the reputation of being the "No-Nonsense Senator." He listened to students, championed their concerns, and amplified their voices within the Senate.

Beyond student politics, he served as Vice Chairman of the LAWSAN Academic Committee, where he organized tutorials, mentored younger students, and inspired academic excellence. He also served as Director of Social Operations of the Legal Ideas Forum International (LIFIN) and currently serves as Deputy Lord Advocate of Legal Luminaries, Faculty of Law, University of Abuja.

In his quest to bring legal knowledge closer to both the learned and the layman, Abdulbaseet established the legal education platform _Learn the Law with ORHAY._ Through this initiative, he simplifies legal concepts and explains the position of the law on contemporary issues. The platform's impact and relevance earned it the *Legal Platform of the Year* Award at the 2025/2026 LAWSAN Dinner and Awards Ceremony.

His excellence extends beyond leadership into advocacy and academics. Among numerous recognitions, he emerged as:

- Best Advocate, Wig Olympics 2025/2026

- Best Oralist and Best Advocate, Legal Luminaries Moot Competition 2023/2024

- Advocate of the Year, 2025/2026 NAMLAS Waleemah and Awards Ceremony

These accolades are only a few among many awards he has received both within and outside the University community.
