THE OFFICIAL SUG ELECTION TIMETABLE IS FINALLY OUT

The Independent Electoral Commission (ELCOM) of the University of Abuja Students' Union Government has officially released the electoral calendar for the 2025/2026 SUG General Elections.

The announcement was made through an official memorandum dated June 20, 2026, signed and issued by the ELCOM leadership under the chairmanship of Comr. Ogunsola Solomon O.

The electoral timetable outlines the sequence of activities leading to the conduct of the Students' Union Government elections, ensuring transparency, fairness, and adequate preparation for all aspiring candidates and stakeholders.

Key Activities and Schedule

1. Sale of Forms and Opening of Campaigns

The electoral process officially begins on Monday, June 22, 2026, and continues until Wednesday, June 24, 2026. During this period, interested candidates are expected to obtain nomination forms and commence their campaigns in accordance with electoral guidelines.

2. Return of Forms

All completed nomination forms must be submitted on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, before the deadline of 11:59 PM. Aspirants are expected to comply strictly with this deadline to qualify for the next stage of the election process.

3. ELCOM Screening Exercise

On Thursday, June 25, 2026, candidates will undergo the official screening exercise conducted by ELCOM at the Department of Political Science Parliamentary Hall. The screening aims to verify candidates' eligibility and ensure compliance with constitutional and electoral requirements.

4. Security Screening Exercise

Following the ELCOM screening, a security screening exercise will take place from Friday, June 26, 2026, to Saturday, June 27, 2026. This stage is designed to assess candidates and maintain the integrity and security of the electoral process.

5. Public Manifesto Presentation

On Monday, June 29, 2026, candidates will publicly present their manifestos at the Management Science Theatre. This event provides an opportunity for aspirants to communicate their visions, objectives, and plans to the student body while allowing students to make informed electoral decisions.

6. SUG General Election

The main election is scheduled for Tuesday, June 30, 2026. Voting will be conducted electronically (E-voting), with the collation centre located at the Veterinary Medicine Lecture Hall. Students will have the opportunity to elect their preferred leaders into various Students' Union Government offices.

7. Hostel Elections

Also scheduled for June 30, 2026, are the Hostel Executive Elections. These elections will similarly be conducted through the E-voting platform, with results collated at the Veterinary Medicine Lecture Hall.

8. In-House SUG Senate Election

The final stage of the electoral process will take place on Saturday, July 4, 2026, with the conduct of the In-House SUG Senate Election. This exercise will complete the formation of the new student leadership structure.
